Just Changed The Oil

So, like it says above ...

A few weeks ago, I changed the oil in my p38. I have always been a religious oil changer. That does mean that I follow the oil changing rites of any particular 'organized' religion. I suppose you could call it a non-denominational oil change. (As far as I know, the only common usage of the word denominations is for the purpose of describing 1. religions and 2. paper currency. I'm not cynical about religion to the degree that my nifty little observation there might imply. It's a coincidence that just happens to make for a pretty good joke).

One of The Automotive Commandments

Religious, as it applies to my oil changing, refers to my strict adherence to this command: Have your oil changed every 3,000 miles. I picked that one up from someone who practices it - my mom. Her cars run forever. Not exactly a statistically significant sample to base my conclusions upon, but I am sticking with it. If I looked, I believe that I would find evidence indicating that motor oil does not actually start going bad until well past 3,000 miles. My brother told me that he had seen something indicating 7,000 miles. Some BMW service schedules have oil changes every 15,000 miles. It would appear that I do take a don't bother me with the facts approach to this. Some would say that doing so actually does make my oil change schedule akin to many religions. That is, it's not so much based on science as it is based upon a belief transferred from one generation to the next. And it is strict. Well, I am Catholic, so I suppose it makes sense.

My break with tradition

Just after my last oil change I bought a FilterMAG oil filter magnet and affixed it to my oil filter. After this most recent oil change, I was able to see if the oil filter magnet was effective in removing metal particles from the oil.
